Serving in the community

Martha and Mary: PFLC helped found Martha and Mary Children’s Home in 1891. Now PFLC is one of nine Lutheran congregations affiliated with the Martha & Mary Lutheran Services Corporation, providing skilled nursing, independent living apartments, in-home care, and children’s services. PFLC members serve on the Boards of the corporation.

Food Donations: Food drives are held by WELCA, the Altar Guild, Sunday School classes, and PFLC’s Boy Scout troop to collect non-perishable food items for Fishline and other helping organizations in North Kitsap.

Community Meals: Every Thursday there is a free community meal served in our Social Hall at 5pm, with food, preparation and cleanup donated by the Poulsbo Noon Lions, Fishline, individuals and churches.

Blood Drive: Puget Sound Blood Center conducts blood drives at PFLC in our Christian Center. This well trained and safety-conscious team comes in and professionally conducts a first-class blood drive for us to help our neighbors in emergency need of blood.   Donors are always needed.

Serving in the world: Individuals in the congregation bring to our attention the community ministries they are passionate about.  Throughout the year, you’ll hear of opportunities to serve through Habitat for Humanity, the YWCA, the Coffee Oasis, Benedict House, North Kitsap Connect for the Homeless, ELCA Good Gifts, St. Vincent de Paul, Fishline, Christmas Toy Shop, Thanksgiving and Christmas boxes, the orphanage in Nepal (see the witnessing page) and many others.

PFLC hosts many community groups as well, including Fishline’s Toy Shop, Kitsap Literacy Campaign, North Kitsap School District music programs, AA, Al-Anon, NK homeschoolers and many others.
